All of this is based on what you believe in, there is no right or wrong answer. Young couples in India are trusting of their parents to select their life partner, based on their experience and love for them. They may not even meet their partner until the wedding.

There are still arranged marriages done here in the West, but it is more likely that the couple chose one another, and presented the idea to the prospective parents. It is also possible, that they met based on a parents suggestion.

Just because you are Indian does not mean that you must marry inside your culture, however, it is likely that whomever you chose to marry will have to change their religion. It would most likely be important to be accepted into the close knit family.
