It can seem very hard to find a new bike when you have so many choices. Choosing their next bicycle is difficult, even for professional riders. The truth is that there are a lot of things to think about when buying a bicycle. Imagine the future: how safe, comfy and stylish do you need the bike to be. How far will you ride and where will you be riding? Choosing between all of the options available can be overwhelming, especially since new developments in cycling happen all the time. It’s easy to just use our criteria to pick the best bike for you.

It goes without saying that choosing the correctly sized bike is of utmost importance. To accomplish this you need know your inseam measurement. Simply measure the distance from your groin to the bottom of your foot, down the inside of your leg. You should ideally be able to place both feet on the ground when sitting in on your bike. This is for safety more than anything else, if your brakes should fail you will not be able to easily stop the bike otherwise.

For a road bike you should take away 9″ from the inseam measurement you took earlier. The size of the tires a road bike uses are the reason for this. Road bikes are meant for city cycling-the tires are thinner and work best on concrete paving. If you are looking for a mountain bike, you will want to subtract about a foot (twelve inches) from your inseam measurement. This is because the tires of a mountain bike are different than those on a road bike. Mountain bike tires will be thick and designed for mountainous terrain. You can always use a mountain bike for city cycling, although this is not how they are best used.

Ask yourself the number of gears necessary for your bike. If you are going to be travelling in relatively flat places, you will not need as many gears as you would need in rockier terrain or a terrain with lots of hills. Just because a bike has more gears doesn’t make it better. You may never even get around to using all the available gears. Save your money for a different feature you’ll really use. If your bike is going to be the main means of travel for you, you absolutely must get the number of gears you need for the situations in which you’ll ride.

You should keep these things in mind when you go out and buy a bicycle, especially if you want to find the one that is right for you. There are so many different bicycles and accessories available that it can feel overwhelming as you try to decide which items are best for you. As long as you go about the process slowly and research a little before you go, you should have no problem finding the perfect bike.
